EQUINE MARKET WATCH (Sanctuaries UK) have a dedicated team of volunteers who monitor markets horse fairs, auctions and places of sale where equines are traded. Publishing our reports enables the public to be aware of where welfare legislation is not upheld and be aware of those venues. Most auctions are run in accordance with current legislation and to very high standards of equine welfare... sadly, there are some who do not. When reports come in to us of poor adherance with legislation and with clear breaches of the WELFARE OF HORSES AT MARKETS (AND OTHER PLACES OF SALE) ORDER 1990 EMW take appropriate steps to ensure those with the power to act are informed and our information to support those breaches is submitted for their use.
As a result of our work, our resident horse/pony population has grown and we now have 3 bases. We have a self-imposed limitation on the number of residents we will house at any one time. Our horses are special and we intend them to have a very good quality of life. To support our work regarding welfare in auctions we have many fundraising activities.
